Posted April 16, 2019 14:51:33A Barbie beauty salon in California has canceled all appearances for women in their prime ages, citing “personal reasons” and other issues, according to a report by The Daily Beast.
The salon, located in the Bay Area city of Santa Clara, has been struggling with a growing problem of “poverty and homelessness,” The Daily Post reported.
A spokesperson for the salon told the outlet that “policies” were being put in place, but that the issue was “personal” and not related to the salon’s mission.
“The barbie salon’s current state of affairs has led to the development of some new personal circumstances that have led to this decision,” the spokesperson said.
“These are not reasons for cancellation.
We are sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused.”
The salon was founded in the 1980s by former Barbie and Snoopy star Michelle Rodriguez and has a loyal following.
Barbie opened the salon in 2007 in the Los Angeles suburb of Burbank, and the company has since expanded to more than 100 locations across the country.
The chain, which has seen strong growth since launching its first retail store in 2014, is currently valued at $1.4 billion.
