By Linda’s Beauty Salon, Beverly Hills, CA|September 18, 2018|Linda’s Beauty, an all-female, non-profit organization, offers a number of products, including a wide variety of cosmetics, skincare, makeup, and beauty tools, for women of color.
But one of their products, their brand-name beauty brand, is now being called into question.
Linda Sarsour, who has been known to use a derogatory term for Muslims, is accused of using the term “queer” in a Facebook post.
Sarsour is the Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), which is a national Muslim civil rights organization.
The organization claims that the word queer is a derogatory name for Muslims that is not inclusive of Muslim women.CAIR says the term queer is derogatory and has no place in the United States.CAir says that they have documented more than 50 instances of the word being used by Linda Sarsor in Facebook posts.
CAIR has asked for a formal investigation into Linda Sardsour.
In a Facebook video posted on September 19, Linda Sarksour said she uses the word to describe people who are queer and transgender.
She said, “I use the word, queer because I know that they don’t really fit into the categories that I think of as LGBTQIA+ or non-binary, and they are not accepted by society.
I use the term because I believe that they are oppressed, because I feel like they are part of this broader queer community, and I feel that they can have a voice and a voice that is very much not being heard by other people.”
She continued, “If they have a different kind of identity, I use that term, too.”
When asked about the word’s derogatory meaning in the post, Linda said, “‘Queer’ is a term that we don’t often use in this community, but I feel it is an inclusive term, so I use it, and that’s really what it is.
And I think it’s a wonderful term.”
Linda also said that she is not “anti-Muslim.”
She told the Los Angeles Times that she has been a Muslim for over 40 years, and she has not had any problems with Muslims in the past.
