In 2018, the City of Toronto launched the Greater Toronto Beautification Zone (GTLZ), a comprehensive system that will help reduce air pollution, promote indoor health and reduce greenhouse gas emissions in neighbourhoods.
The GTLZ aims to reduce carbon emissions from the city’s major urban centres by 40 per cent by 2020, and achieve this by reducing energy use and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 30 per cent in 2020.
GTLz also aims to build and maintain the infrastructure necessary to help build a sustainable economy.
According to the city, it has plans to install a new wastewater treatment plant at the intersection of Jarvis and Queen, and build a solar panel farm in the neighbourhood.
The city is also looking at a plan to create an environmentally friendly neighbourhood, and plans to build green roofs on some of the city centre’s properties.
