Janet Beauty Salon is one of the many women who will go to jail if the Queensland Government passes legislation to make it legal for men to be convicted of having sex with women.
The Queensland Government says the move would protect women from predators and would help the state meet the requirements of the UN’s human rights convention on violence against women.
But some women’s groups are calling for more protection, saying it will make men less likely to abuse women.

Rape is defined as an act that occurs between two people, usually by an individual who has no other way of obtaining consent, which usually occurs in a situation where the person being raped is unconscious, unable to give any consent, or cannot control his or her actions.

It’s not a crime to be drunk and high, a woman is too drunk to consent, you’ve been drugged or have been penetrated by a stranger, you were drunk when you were having sex and you’ve fallen asleep and a man raped you.
It’s also not a legal offence to be a victim of sexual assault or domestic violence.
What happens if a woman has been raped?
The man who raped her will be arrested and will face charges of aggravated rape, aggravated sexual assault, rape by penetration, rape, and aggravated indecent assault.
The man will also be charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm.
If convicted, he will have to serve a maximum of 20 years in prison.
If he is acquitted, he could be sentenced to as little as five years.
